Owner/Primary Instructor
Mr. Hurley is the Owner and Primary Instructor for Direct Action Tactical Consultants. Having served as a United States Marine for 8 years as both an infantryman and explosive ordnance disposal technician (EOD), he has a combined total of over 26 years of operational experience in Weapons and Tactics as both a tactical operator and an instructor.
He recently retired as a member of the Lancaster County Special Emergency Response Team (S.E.R.T) where he operated as a TEMS Team Lead and adjunct tactics instructor. Further, he is also recognized as a subject matter expert in the areas of high threat protection, tactical team movement (CQB), communications, explosives and explosive devices, counter-terrorism operations, surveillance/counter-surveillance, and a range of other operational tradecraft.
Mr. Hurley has used his acquired skills in an operational setting. Whether he was deployed overseas supporting the Global War on Terrorism, or working here in the states, he continued honing his skills. As a lead instructor, Mr. Hurley developed exercises for joint military commands as well as Local and Federal Government organizations, he provided valuable training to many DoD SOF, local Police Bomb Squads, SWAT, and Fire Department Hazardous Device Units, to ensure their operational readiness was at its best.
In 2009/10, he served as an Intelligence and Operations Trainer for the Counter-IED Operations Integration Center (C.O.I.C). Previous to that, he operated in Afghanistan as a Protective Security Specialist/Firearms Instructor for the U.S. Department of State Diplomatic Security Service WPPS program with USTC (Formerly Blackwater Worldwide). He provided protection and security for visiting VIPs including White House visitors (POTUS,FLOTUS,VPOTUS), members of Congress, and Governors. In addition, he also provided firearms training and re-qualification to DoS Diplomatic Security RSO and Blackwater personnel.
While serving as a Team Leader and Medic with the U.S. Department of State Emergency Response Team / Embassy Security force with AGNA, some of his responsibilities included providing a rapid, effective counter-assault response to developing or occurring threats against designated U.S government facilities and personnel and to provide convoy security for the movement of US Embassy personnel. Mr. Hurley was also responsible for providing first-line medical care and training to ERT members and US Embassy personnel.
He continues his training by completing additional Instructional development courses ensuring the highest quality professional instruction.
Mr. Hurley operated in High Threat Environments for more than 8 years and has put all of his acquired skills into practice, to provide you, the end-user, with the most up-to-date skills and practical, real-world training.
